Module 1 — Settled Bodies
Days 1 to 60. Children learn to recognize physical signals of emotion — heartbeat, breathing, muscle tension — before being asked to name those feelings in words. This module introduces the Calming Corner protocol and expands emotional vocabulary beyond mad, sad, and happy.
Module 2 — Settled Minds
Days 61 to 120. Children build working memory through visual directive sequences and practice impulse control through delayed gratification. This module introduces the three-step Stop Think Choose problem-solving model and helps children adapt when routines change unexpectedly.
Module 3 — Settled Together
Days 121 to 180. Children practice perspective-taking and empathy, cooperative resource-sharing, and conflict communication. This module introduces restorative circle practices for re-entering the group after a significant behavioral incident.
MTSS Tiers
Tier 1
Universal: every child, every day, built into the core lesson.
Tier 2
Targeted: a scripted co-regulation response for children showing escalation.
Tier 3
Intensive: a fully scripted Calming Corner protocol that runs even with a substitute teacher.
The Rubric
Every lesson ends with a 60-second, 1-to-5 behavioral rubric. Scores accumulate into real classroom data — the foundation of the research behind Steady Minds.
